Brand Story - FORIS HORTUS

The Brand Story

Closer to Nature. Closer to Each Other.

The story of FORIS HORTUS did not begin in a romantic garden. It began with manufacturing, design and business. What follows is how a factory became a brand - and what we believe outdoor furniture is really for.

It started with a rejection

I once believed that making good furniture was simply about making a good product. My growth environment always had "making things" in it: the generation before me worked in manufacturing, and members of my family worked in interior design. I spent more than a decade in e-commerce and brand building, learning about products, markets and consumers.

Then I chose outdoor furniture. In the beginning, like many manufacturers, our team focused on the product itself: materials, craftsmanship, structure, price and delivery. We believed that if we could get all of those things right, we would have made a good product.

Then one day, a design we had worked hard on was rejected by an important customer. It wasn't an easy moment. But looking back, that was where FORIS HORTUS truly began.

What a German client taught us

That rejection made us ask, for the first time: what makes a design truly good? We began to understand that a design is not good simply because we think it looks beautiful. And a product's journey does not end when it leaves the factory. A piece of furniture eventually finds its way into someone's garden, a family's terrace or a hotel courtyard. It faces sun, rain and changing seasons, and becomes part of real life.

Later, a German client taught us another lasting lesson. Their expectations for craftsmanship, quality and process were exceptionally demanding. For nearly a year, we refined, tested, adjusted and started again. Eventually, we earned their trust. That experience changed the way we understood quality.

Quality isn't simply how good something looks when it leaves the factory. It is whether something is still worth keeping years later. That experience gradually gave us another way to think about sustainability.

Sustainability begins with longevity.

The question that changed everything

But eventually, an even bigger question changed us. The longer we worked with outdoor furniture, the more we found ourselves asking: why do people really need outdoor furniture? Is it simply because a garden needs a table, a few chairs or a parasol? Over time, we realized that the answer wasn't in the furniture.

It was in the life happening around it. A family sharing dinner beneath the trees. Friends meeting for coffee and somehow talking until sunset. Children playing nearby while their parents sit together in the shade. Or someone who, after a long day, finally has a place to put down their phone, feel the breeze and do nothing at all.

These ordinary moments often become the ones we remember. And they changed the way we understood what we were really creating. We don't want to fill outdoor spaces with furniture. We want to create places people want to stay.

THE SECOND SPACE

That is what FORIS HORTUS came to mean. We call this place the Second Space. Home gives us a sense of belonging. Work keeps us moving. Beyond the indoors, we need a place to slow down: somewhere to breathe, spend time alone or gather with others; to feel the sun, the breeze and the plants around us; and to listen again to the people beside us.

It is not simply the space left outside a house. It is where life extends into nature. A space to breathe. A space to pause. A space to gather. A space to reconnect.

01

Furniture creates space

Furniture creates space. Space invites us to stay.

02

Staying creates connection

Staying creates connection. Connection creates moments.

03

Moments become memories

Moments become memories. And that is why our furniture was never meant to be the hero of the story. People are.

SILENT COMPANION

We believe the best outdoor furniture doesn't need to demand attention. It should quietly belong - within architecture, within a garden, within nature. It should endure. It should be part of everyday life. It should witness the moments people share.

And it should do so with as little unnecessary burden on nature as possible. That is why we want every FORIS HORTUS product to become a Silent Companion. Not something that conquers nature. Not something that decorates it. Something designed to live alongside it.

Furniture should step back, so life can step forward.

What we hold to

Nature

Design begins with nature and respects it. We respect materials, resources and the environment, keeping business and nature in a lasting balance.

Quality

Quality is both a product standard and a long-term commitment to our customers. We create products worth using for years to come.

Comfort

We focus on how people feel in real outdoor settings, beyond dimensions and specifications.

Connection

Behind every table, sofa and parasol are the relationships between people.

Responsibility

Responsible today. Mindful of tomorrow. We think for the long term.

What we hope to leave behind

In the end, we hope to leave behind more than furniture. Years from now, people may not remember the model number of a chair. They may not remember the name of a collection. They may not even remember why they chose a particular colour. But perhaps they will remember: that summer evening when friends stayed outside talking late into the night. That Sunday lunch that somehow lasted the whole afternoon. That sunset when the children played in the garden while the adults sat nearby.

We hope FORIS HORTUS can quietly exist within those memories. Not as the centre of them. But by giving those memories a place to happen. That is why we create outdoor furniture.

Stay Outside a Little Longer.
